Automotive electronics. IATF 16949 certification requires that the entire production chain, from incoming material inspection through final functional test, operates under a single quality management system. When a car window-lifter controller or a playback module fails in the field, the root-cause investigation needs to trace back through component lots, solder profiles, and board lamination records, all from one controlled source.
Medical devices. ISO 13485 imposes traceability requirements that are nearly impossible to satisfy across independent vendors. Each component lot, each solder joint inspection record, and each functional test result must be attributable to a single quality system. - Verify their component sourcing process: do they work with authorized distributors, perform incoming quality inspection, and use FIFO warehouse management
- Confirm their testing capabilities cover SPI, AOI, X-ray, ICT, FCT, and thermal cycling, not just basic visual inspection
- Check whether they offer NPI and DFX support, which indicates engineering depth rather than pure contract manufacturing
- Request a sample project plan that shows a single point of accountability from BOM review through shipment
