Quality and Testing
8. What inspection and testing equipment do you have on-site? (List the items; if the answer is vague, that is itself the answer.)
9. What assembly standards do you follow? (IPC-A-610 is the widely accepted standard for PCBA workmanship.)
10. Can you provide traceability documentation per board or per lot?
Process
11. What is your quotation process and typical lead time for prototype and volume orders?
12. Do you support both prototype (from one piece) and medium-to-large batch capacity?
13. What post-assembly services are available — conformal coating, low-pressure injection moulding, box-build, program burning?
A manufacturer that answers these questions with specifics — equipment models, standard references, process descriptions — is a different prospect from one that answers with adjectives. "We have strict quality control" tells you nothing. "We follow IPC-A-610 Class 2, run SPI before placement, AOI after reflow, and X-ray on all BGA boards" tells you everything.
When the Board Leaves the Line
Assembly is not the end. Boards that need environmental protection — moisture, dust, vibration, temperature cycling — require conformal coating or low-pressure injection moulding. Products that ship to end users require finished-product assembly: mating the PCBA with enclosures, wiring harnesses, connectors, and displays into a packaged unit ready for the box.
