The difference is not luck. It is knowing what to evaluate.
Selecting a PCBA manufacturer China is one of the highest-stakes sourcing decisions an electronics company can make. A strong partner compresses your time-to-market. A weak one creates months of rework, warranty claims, and damaged customer relationships. This guide covers the evaluation criteria that separate capable manufacturers from marketing-only operations.

Start with Certifications, Not Promises

Certifications are the fastest initial filter. Any manufacturer can claim quality, but ISO and industry-specific certificates require audited processes and documented traceability. For electronics manufacturing, the certifications that matter most depend on your end market.
ISO 9001 covers general quality management. IATF 16949 is the automotive industry standard and signals that a manufacturer has the process discipline to meet the zero-defect expectations of automotive OEMs. ISO 13485 is specific to medical devices and adds requirements for design controls, risk management, and validated processes. If your product serves regulated markets, these are non-negotiable prerequisites.
Beyond management systems, ask about product-level certifications: UL recognition, RoHS compliance, REACH, and SGS verification. The manufacturer should be able to provide certificate numbers with scope statements, not just logos on a homepage.
Practical step: Request copies of the actual certificates, not screenshots. Verify the certificate scope matches the specific processes and products you need. A certificate for PCB fabrication alone does not cover assembly, and vice versa.

SMT and DIP Assembly Capability

The core of PCBA manufacturing lies in two assembly technologies: surface mount technology (SMT) and dual in-line package (DIP) through-hole soldering. Understanding a manufacturer's capability in both tells you whether they can handle your product's complexity.
