The difference is not talent or budget. It is a sourcing decision: split-vendor manufacturing versus a turnkey PCBA service. But turnkey is not automatically the right answer for every build. The question is when it makes sense and what concrete factors should drive that call.

What Full-Cycle Turnkey Actually Covers

A full-cycle turnkey provider takes responsibility for every manufacturing stage: bare-board PCB production, component procurement and incoming inspection, SMT placement, DIP through-hole assembly, conformal coating or low-pressure injection moulding where needed, PCBA testing, and finished-product box-build assembly. One purchase order, one point of accountability, one shipment of tested, packaged units.

The appeal is straightforward: fewer handoffs, fewer communication loops, less time spent reconciling different vendors' quality standards. The practical question for buyers is whether their specific project conditions make that consolidation worthwhile. Here are five factors that should shape the decision.

Factor 1: Order Volume and Prototyping Frequency

Turnkey delivers the most visible savings on projects that move between prototype and production volumes. A hardware team building a first-run prototype in low quantities can hand off a BOM and receive assembled boards without setting up accounts with three different suppliers.
